Jo graduated from Bristol in 1994 and after working in the department as a clinical fellow in anaesthesia she undertook a PhD at Bristol investigating neurophysiological correlates of pain in horses.
In 2001 she moved to University Utrecht as head of small animal anaesthesia and then had the opportunity to spend 2 years in New Zealand carrying out research between 2005 and 2007.
In March 2007 she returned to Bristol where she contributes to the provision of clinical anaesthesia but also has a large research role, heading the anaesthesia and analgesia research group at Langford and collaborating with neuroscience research in the department of physiology and pharmacology.
She is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia and her research interests focus on clinical pain management and increasing understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of pain perception.
